What is the procedure for paying taxes on tobacco bought online?
I live in NYC. After the last tax hike on cigarettes I have gone the way of rolling my own - much cheaper. Thus far I have only found the tobacco I like online from a business that does not charge tax. I know that in New York state we are required to pay tax on tobacco products bought online and that we do it when we file our taxes. My question is does anyone know what the procedure is? Am I looking to give myself a big head ache in April?

When the tax department does an audit and finds out you have purchased tobacco online, they first offer you a chance to pay the tax without penalty. If you pirchase using a mail order check, there is little opposrtunity to be caught btw.
